Africa Journal: Day 4 – December 30, 2008

Sorry that I missed a post yesterday . . . I’ll attempt at getting 2 out today, so we’ll see how that goes!

From my journal:

” … currently in the Paris airport and waiting about another 4 hours before our flight leaves for Bamako.  I can’t believe that I’ll be in Africa today!

… It’s late (2 am) and we’ve arrived at the guest house in Bamako, Mali.  It is an IMB (International Mission Board) house that these will be the best accommodations we will have for the next 2 weeks.  Cot/beds for everyone, showers, and the missionaries left us some food and stuff in the kitchen.  It doesn’t feel like 2 am, probably because at home it is really only 8pm.  Still very excited and anxious to get on the field tomorrow.  Randy and I will have to go to the IMB office in the morning to exchange money and get a few supplies that are waiting for us.

… I pray that You work in miraculous ways on this trip in and through us.  Give us rest tonight and wake us up refreshed and ready for the new day…”

In my encouragement notes for this day, 2 of them gave me the same scripture references to look at, read, and meditate on.  It was this passage from Ephesians.

Ephesians 3:14-20

I’m familiar with this passage, and love the thought of knowing and searching to know how wide and long and high and deep the love of Christ is … and I’ve always been amazed by verse 20 where it says “now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we could ask or imagine …” I don’t know about you but I can think of and imagine quite a bit, and God is able to do immeasurably more than that!  What a great promise that was to claim for this trip and for life in general!

It seems like I constantly had to keep “pinching myself” so as to realize that this wasn’t a dream, that I really was going to/arriving in Africa.  The next 2 weeks were some of the most eye opening of my entire life…

How I spent most of my time in the Paris airport:

Thanks Fran, I’m glad someone else is enjoying it too! It definitely is taking me back, helping me to remember the amazing things that God did, and pushing me to be closer to Him everyday … it’s SO easy on the mission field…
